Getting Started:
R.Pro

Empty Annotations, Manual Annotation and Annotation Editing

When starting with an empty annotation pipeline, an empty annotation with no masks or categories is created that will need to be manually annotated. Some of the processes outlined for an empty annotation pipeline are the same as when editing a completed automated annotation pipeline.

R.Pro

R.Pro is the tool you use to manually add annotations by creating objects, propagating masks, merging and splitting objects, as well as other useful editing functions. It is also a powerful tool for improving and refining existing annotations. Manually annotating and editing with R.Pro combines visualization and annotation features, letting you create and correct annotations directly by clicking Annotate Frame for any frame.

How to create a mask in R.Pro

Object masks can be created on any frame in R.Pro. To create a mask for the frame in view click on Annotate Frame.

Creating masks is the same process used during keyframe annotation. The only difference is there are no suggested categories.

Note: See How to create a mask for the initial creation or editing of object masks.

After creating your object(s), click Save to continue.

The newly created object(s) will appear in the Timeline.

How to select a frame range

Annotating, propagating masks, and editing in R.Pro often requires the selection of frame ranges on which to perform specific actions.

Select all frames by clicking on the Select all Frames button.

Select a specific range of frames or edit the current frame range with the Edit Frame Range Selection button.

Click and drag across an area of the Timeline also creates a frame range. The end frame is displayed above the end of range marker.

Clear the frame range with Clear Current Frame Range Selection button.

How to select objects for processes

Actions in the Timeline requires the selection of a single object, or multiple objects with a key object.

Select a single object on which to perform an action.

Select multiple objects on which to perform an action. The key object (star icon) is the object that will receive the performed action.

How to perform mask propagation

R.Pro’s mask propagation allows you to extend a single frame’s object masks across a frame range.

Select the object(s), create a frame range. The Timeline playhead represents the origin frame to start propagation from. Click Propagate.

A dialog will ask you to confirm the range and objects to be propagated.
Note: mask propagation will replace existing masks.

While propagation is running the frame range will be locked and unable to receive any further actions until completed.

A dialog will inform you when propagation is complete. Click X to dismiss the dialog.

The range of newly propagated frames is now displayed in the Timeline.

How to merge objects

If the same object appears in the Timeline as separate objects, they can be merged into a single object.

Select a range containing the object(s) you want to merge. Select the object(s) and set a key object. Click Merge and accept the dialog.

The objects have now been merged together and are one single object.

How to split objects

If a single object should actually be separate objects, they can be split apart.

Select a range containing the object you want to split. Select the object and click Split and accept the dialog.

The single object has now been apart into separate objects.

How to change a category

If you happen to mislabel or assign the wrong category to an object, it can easily be changed with R.Pro. The category will be changed for the entire annotation.

Select the object(s) whose category you would like to change and click on Change Category.

Type the new category in the field and choose the correct object category from the list. Recommended categories are shown with R.

The object category is now correct.

How to delete objects from frame ranges

Select a range containing the object(s) you want to delete. Select the object(s) and click Delete and accept the dialog.

The object(s) are now deleted from the previously selected frame range.
